Youth Mentoring Program
Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much."
~ Helen Keller
Caring for a sick or disabled child is a 24/7 job and can be overwhelming at times. The Pediatric Angel Network knows how difficult it can be for the child and caregiver when their days are spent with endless visits to the doctors, therapists, and home schooling because of their medical condition. Some children are living their young lives on ventilators, isolated at home, without friends to play with or visit them. Other children may have a chronic illness which prevents them from running and playing like the other children or siblings. Our volunteer staff of high school and college students act via our Youth Mentoring Program to help take the pressure off of the caregiver for a little while and offer friendship and fun for the child. The time spent with your child will be centered on fun activities modified for him/her and age appropriate play. Depending upon the severity of the illness or disability, activities can be as simple as reading to the child or taking them outside for a walk...right on up to organized sports games with other special needs children. The Pediatric Angel Network volunteers will be with them every step of the way... bringing joy to the children, the caregiver and the community. Visits are generally one hour, 1-3 times a week depending on the families request. Days and times are flexible to accommodate the child's and student's schedule.
Student volunteers receive credit for their service which goes towards meeting their community service requirements for school and the children receive a caring friend to bring a giggle and smile to their day!
